UW–Madison launches ambitious environmental sustainability initiative
The University of Wisconsin–Madison has a rich history of advancing environmental sustainability through its excellence in fields ranging from ecology to wildlife biology to satellite technology. Building on this tradition, the university is launching a new cross-campus initiative focused on environmental sustainability, centered around five goals that include the launch of an interdisciplinary research hub.
An oral history: 10 years of student-led Black History Month celebrations at UW–Madison
Black History Month has been celebrated each February in the U.S. for many decades — the first official designation is credited to students and educators at Kent State University in 1970. At the University of Wisconsin–Madison, events celebrating Black History Month have also been offered through the years. In 2014, UW’s African American Student Academic Services initiated a student-led Black History Month Planning Committee, beginning a new era of coordinated, campuswide programming.

A New Promise for Tribal Education in Wisconsin
Beginning next fall, UW–Madison will cover the full cost of undergraduate education for Wisconsin residents who are enrolled members of one of the state’s 11 federally recognized tribes.

All enrolled students are eligible for the medical and counseling care available at University Health Services (UHS), but UHS is not a substitute for health insurance. Spring/summer coverage is effective from January 15, 2024, and enrollments must be received by February 14, 2024.
Graduation Rates Set New Records
The 2022-23 academic year was a record-breaker for student outcomes at UW–Madison. Among the milestones: The four-year graduation rate rose to 75.5%, the highest ever, and the university conferred a record number of total degrees, driven by a record number of bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
