Family Weekend FAQs

This annual, signature event will take place Friday, October 18, 2019 – Sunday, October 20, 2019.

Family Weekend is $12 per person up to 4 people, and $5 for each additional person after that. Current UW-Madison students are free. This cost includes most events, activities and receptions throughout the weekend.

There are a few additional, ticketed event opportunities that your Family Weekend registration gives you access to, but that you must choose to add to your registration:

• Farewell Brunch with Bucky – $16 per person (including students)
• Discounted Badger men’s hockey tickets – $13, savings of $11 (link to purchase tickets will be sent out to registered families by early September)

No — we intentionally do not schedule Family Weekend during a home football game due to decreased hotel and parking options as well as programming limitations.

We do partner with Wisconsin Athletics to offer tickets to a football game before general single-game tickets go on sale to the general public. Please note: this football game is on a separate day and is a separate event from Family Weekend. More information on this football game day offering for parents and families can be found here.

Yes, all events are reserved for Family Weekend participants. A link to register will be available on the Family Weekend homepage through October 1, 2019.

Hotels during Family Weekend book up quickly. Browse a variety of hotel options in the greater Madison area through Destination Madison.

Some hotels choose to participate in a Family Weekend hotel block, which you can view and book through here.

Please note, however, that not all downtown and surrounding-area hotels choose to participate in the Family Weekend block. Because of this, many families choose to book their own accommodations beforehand or separate from our hotel block.

Changes may be made to your Red Shirt selection through Friday, September 20, and changes may be made to your Family Weekend registration through Tuesday, October 1, 2019. To make changes, click the registration link in your confirmation email or contact Wisconsin Union Conference Management at either
conferences@union.wisc.edu or 608-890-1077.

Cancellations of The Red Shirt must be submitted on or before Friday, September 20, 2019 to receive a full refund of The Red Shirt product and domestic shipping fees. We are not able to issue refunds of The Red Shirt product or shipping fees after Friday, September 20, 2019. Returns or exchanges for sizes after Friday, September 20, 2019 must be done in-person at the State Street University Book Store location at 711 State Street, Madison, WI 53703.

Cancellations of Family Weekend registration and Farewell Brunch with Bucky must be submitted on or before Tuesday, October 1, 2019 to receive a refund of Family Weekend registration and Farewell Brunch with Bucky fees, minus a cancellation fee of $2 per non-student. We are not able to issue refunds of Family Weekend registration or Farewell Brunch with Bucky fees after Tuesday, October 1, 2019.
