Each year, the UW-Madison Parent and Family Program produces a calendar with key dates and information. The 2024-25 calendar will be available soon and is distributed to all incoming families at orientation. All other families can request a copy to be mailed to them this summer at no cost. 

UW–Madison launches ambitious environmental sustainability initiative

The University of Wisconsin–Madison has a rich history of advancing environmental sustainability through its excellence in fields ranging from ecology to wildlife biology to satellite technology. Building on this tradition, the university is launching a new cross-campus initiative focused on environmental sustainability, centered around five goals that include the launch of an interdisciplinary research hub.

An oral history: 10 years of student-led Black History Month celebrations at UW–Madison

Black History Month has been celebrated each February in the U.S. for many decades — the first official designation is credited to students and educators at Kent State University in 1970. At the University of Wisconsin–Madison, events celebrating Black History Month have also been offered through the years. In 2014, UW’s African American Student Academic Services initiated a student-led Black History Month Planning Committee, beginning a new era of coordinated, campuswide programming.

Winter Commencement Recap

Former Badger and NBA All-Star Michael Finley told the crowd at UW’s winter commencement ceremony that the fast track isn’t always the best track. “You can miss something valuable that way. I learned about patience and humility — that growth doesn’t come when everyone is watching but by how hard you work when nobody is.”
