Notice: Out-of-State Tuition to Increase Next Year

Steve Hahn, UW vice provost for enrollment management, sent the following message on December 7 to out-of-state undergraduate students whose tuition is expected to increase by 2.3 percent each of the next two years. Please note that tuition rates for Wisconsin residents remain frozen; residents of Minnesota who have applied for tuition reciprocity are also not affected. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Parent and Family Program.

The UW System Board of Regents has approved tuition increases for UW–Madison nonresident undergraduates and some select graduate and professional schools for the 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 academic years.

You are receiving this message because you are a UW–Madison nonresident undergraduate or international student.

Tuition for nonresident undergraduate students as well as international students will be increased 2.3 percent in each of the next two years. For the 2019–2020 academic year, tuition for full-time nonresident students will be increased by $810. For the 2020–2021 academic year, tuition will be increased by $828, bringing the nonresident undergraduate tuition to $38,443.

The additional revenue will fund critical new faculty and staff positions, provide funds for high-quality programs and experiences for students, and upgrade classroom spaces. At least 20 percent of the revenue generated by the increase will also go back into need-based financial aid for eligible students.
