Moving Off Campus
It is a common misconception that students need to sign a lease for next year before Thanksgiving because there will be “nothing left” if they wait.
The fact is that although some landlords begin showing apartments in November, the most variety and choice of campus area housing units for next fall (with leases running mid-August to mid-August) will be available December through February.
Students who sign leases early may overpay or find themselves in unfavorable roommate situations. Later in the year, rents may fall and many units are still available.
However, students who are looking for something specific, such as a certain building or location, or a specific type of unit to accommodate a large number of roommates, may want to begin searching earlier.
