Office of the Registrar

The Registrar’s Office manages important student records and processes, including:

  • Personal information, grades, transcripts, diplomas
  • Class schedules and course guide
  • Enrollment and major/certificate declarations
  • Wisconsin residency for tuition
  • Transfer credits and credit evaluations
  • FERPA privacy compliance
  • Academic eligibility for athletes

Undergraduate Advising

Advising is a partnership between students and UW–Madison advisors.

  • SOAR Orientation: First-year students receive assistance with enrolling in classes and learning about campus resources.
  • After SOAR, students are assigned an advisor in their major or a cross-college advisor if undecided.
  • Advisors help with course planning, campus resources, and career goals.

When to meet with an advisor?

  • Students should meet with an advisor at least once per semester for enrollment and planning.
  • Advisors also assist with graduation planning and encourage involvement.

Enrollment Prep:

  • Complete the Pre-Enrollment Checklist in Student Center (under “Tasks”).
  • Clear any holds (such as library fines, tuition, or advisor meetings) before enrolling.

Disability Resources

The McBurney Disability Resource Center provides classroom accommodations and access for students with disabilities.

  • Apply online under “Students→Apply for Accommodations.”
  • Eligible students complete McBurney Orientation and Service Training (MOST).

Textbooks & Course Materials

Students may need textbooks, lab gear, or art supplies for their classes.

How to find materials:

  • Check your email before classes start
  • Use Course Search & Enroll (see “Sections” tab)
  • Look in MyUW under “Textbooks” and “Courses”

Other tips:

  • Campus libraries often loan materials
  • Course packets are sold at campus copy shops
  • Ensure you are purchasing the correct textbook edition by using the ISBN (a 10-or 13-digit number) listed by the instructor.
