Summer Health Services

Students remaining in Madison this summer but not taking classes may want to pay the Student Health Fee for continued access to University Health Services (UHS). The Student Health Fee is a one-time payment of $74 that grants eligibility for UHS visits between May 24, 2008, and August 10, 2008.

“UHS stays open during regular hours throughout the summer,” says Susan Crowley, interim director of University Health Services, “providing the same clinical, counseling, pharmacy, and other services that are available during the school year. We want those services to be available to as many eligible students as need them, regardless of whether or not they’re taking summer classes.”

Access to UHS services is included in tuition and segregated fees each semester. Students enrolled for Spring 2008 are eligible to visit UHS through Friday, May 23, including those graduating in May. Students enrolled for any summer session will have UHS summer eligibility.

“For the rest,” says Crowley, “the Student Health Fee provides an option.”

Students may continue to use the UHS Pharmacy through the summer without paying the Student Health Fee. However, if an appointment with a clinician is needed to get a prescription, they will have to pay for it.

Students covered by the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) have summer eligibility and do not have to pay the Student Health Fee.

The $74 fee must be paid before a student’s first summer appointment at University Health Services, 1552 University Avenue, Room 425, weekdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

As a reminder, access to UHS is not a substitute for health insurance as it is only open weekdays and does not provide emergency care.
