Important Reminders

Research Opportunity for Parents

The UW–Madison Couples Lab is conducting a research study to learn about couple relationships once grown children have left home. You and your partner may be eligible to participate if you experienced the empty nest within the last two years, are age 43-57, and are willing to attend two laboratory sessions together at UW–Madison. You will also be asked to complete daily communication ratings at home for two weeks. Flexible appointment days and times can accommodate out-of-town participants. Compensation will be provided for study completion. If you are interested in this research opportunity, please call 608-263-2351 or e-mail relationships@sohe.wisc.edu.

For questions about this research, contact Lauren Papp, associate professor of human development and family studies in the School of Human Ecology, at 608-262-8611 or papp@wisc.edu.

FAFSA Reminder

To be considered for need-based financial aid, a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed for your student each year. The application for the 2014–15 academic year is now available online, and it should be submitted as soon as possible. Read more about how to apply or contact a Financial Aid Counselor.

Your student may also apply online for scholarships at UW–Madison. The Scholarships@UW–Madison website is a one-stop shop for undergraduate scholarships.

Taxes and Tax Assistance for Students

As tax season is upon us, the Parent Program wants to make sure students have access to tax forms and assistance. Please make arrangements with your students to obtain the 1098T form, which contains important tax information related to tuition and other educational expenses. Students access the form using this process:

  1. They can access and download a 1098T form by going directly to https://www.getmydocument.com and following the instructions for logging in and securely accessing the data. If they have trouble accessing the 1098T form, they can call 800-756-4311. Representatives are available Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m. central time.
  2. Students with questions regarding the data included on the form may reference Frequently Asked Questions, call the Bursar’s Office at 608-262-3611, or e-mail tuition@bussvc.wisc.edu.
  3. If a student did not download a 1098T form by the end of January, it should have been mailed to his or her address on file.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA), sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, is available to help students — or anyone earning less than $51,000 per year — with filing taxes.

Summer Term

Summer Term for 2014 will offer both three- and eight-week course options from May 27 to August 10. The Summer Term website provides information on courses, dates and deadlines, tuition rates, a guide to Madison, and summer housing options.
