Parents’ Weekend: When is it and how do I register?
Parents’ Weekend, hosted by the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA), is an opportunity for parents to come to campus and participate in activities inherent to the student experience. Parents are encouraged to develop their connections to the UW by exploring the campus, asking questions, and connecting with other parents, staff, and faculty. Families will also have the opportunity to attend a pre-game Badger HUDDLE tailgate and a Wisconsin football game.
The 2013 Parents’ Weekend is September 20–22. Online registration begins at 9 a.m., central time, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. For more information about this event, including costs and lodging, or to be placed on the mailing list, visit the Parents’ Weekend website or call the Wisconsin Alumni Association at 608-262-2551.

How do I purchase single, home football tickets?
After requests for home and away single game tickets by donor and season ticket holders, any remaining non-conference home and all away single game tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 15, 2013 (subject to availability). Tickets for Big Ten Conference home games will go on sale to the general public August 5, 2013 (subject to availability). We have an incoming student who is planning on purchasing a new laptop computer. Which type works better with the technology on campus, an Apple or a PC?
The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) provides a wide variety of technology services to the University of Wisconsin–Madison, including discounts on computers, laptops, hardware, software, and accessories.
You or your student may visit the DoIT Tech Store where a representative will show you the software they have available for purchase as well as walk you through the steps of purchasing a laptop. In order to make a purchase at that time, your student will need a student ID or an ID number and a driver’s license.
A rule of thumb suggested by DoIT is to “go with what you know.” They also encourage students to call their major area of study’s department to see if there are any specific requirements to be aware of before purchasing a laptop. Computer labs and kiosks throughout campus have both PC and Mac computers.
For more information and advice about purchasing a new computer, encourage your student to visit the DoIT TechStore website or call 608-265-7469.

My student is signed up for Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR). What does the parent programming at SOAR entail?
While at SOAR, Faculty, staff, and students will present information to parents and guests on services and issues such as health, safety, financial planning, academic and social support services, campus housing, and transition. Parents and guests will also learn from advisors about the academic structure of UW–Madison and how the advising and enrollment process works. There will be many opportunities for socializing and connecting with other parents at SOAR as well as time for touring the campus.
For more information about the parent programming at SOAR, visit SOAR’s Parent/Guest Program website.

How can my student get season football tickets for next year’s Badgers games?
Student season tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and cost $168, plus a $20 processing fee, for all seven home games for the 2013-2014 academic year.
All full-time undergraduate students (continuing students, incoming freshmen, transfer students, and UW Connections students) can begin purchasing season tickets at www.uwbadgers.com on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 7:30 a.m. CDT.
Ticket sales are exclusively online. To purchase tickets, students need a Student ID number (also referred to as a Campus ID number). New students and those who have never purchased student tickets online will first need to activate a student ID number online prior to when tickets go on sale. All returning students should use a student ID number and existing password to purchase student tickets.
For more information about purchasing football tickets visit the 2013 Wisconsin Football Student Season Ticket Process website.

When is University Housing Move-in day, and how should we plan for it?
This year’s University Residence Hall move-in days are August 28 and 29, 2013. Residents are assigned to one of these days based on which hall/floor they will live in. University Housing does not assign residents to a specific time for that day. Most students will receive room assignments and move-in date information in early June. A few specific groups, such as student employees of University Housing and students attending International SOAR, will receive an earlier move-in date of August 25 to accommodate training/orientation.
Be sure to enjoy the day and remember to tell your student that you’re proud of what he/she has accomplished! For more details on preparing for fall move-in, visit the University Housing move-in website.
