Career Corner: Exploration Center and Events
Winter break can be a great time to discuss a variety of topics with your student and encourage him or her to check into career advising, workshops, assessments, and career fairs throughout the year.
The Exploration Center, a service of the Cross-College Advising Service (CCAS), is designed to help students explore majors and careers. The CCAS website offers tools and resources to help students explore how personalities and goals match up with positions inside and outside a field of study. Students may also schedule appointments with CCAS’s career advisors or request career support through their specific schools or colleges.
Here are some upcoming events related to careers and internships:
- Public Service Fair: Thursday, Jan. 30, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. The fair hosts local, national, and international nonprofit and governmental agencies. Students will find opportunities that match their interests, majors, and career goals. Agencies are seeking students to work and volunteer in fields such as education, poverty, hunger, homelessness, environment, youth, health, and more. Students should check out the Morgridge Center’s tips for students for helpful information on preparing for the fair.
- Spring Career and Internship Fair: Monday, Feb. 3. This is the largest career fair of the semester. Students can meet with representatives from more than 175 local, regional, and national employers, and begin a job or internship search, network with employers, or research companies and careers.
- Letters and Science Mock Interviews: Tuesday, Feb. 25, and Wednesday, March 5. Students can practice interviewing skills and receive valuable feedback and advice by completing a 45-minute session with an employer. Registration will open in early February through BuckyNet.
